The Language Centre offers placement tests during the first week of each semester to assess students’ existing language skills and recommend suitable courses.

Students in higher semesters – continuing their studies from previous semesters

Course timetable of the Language Centre: 5 weeks before the start of the lecture term (starting on a Monday)

in the winter term 2026/27: September 7th, 2026

Course activation/start of registration on Stud.IP: 3 weeks before the start of the lecture term (beginning on a Monday)

in the winter term 2026/27: September 21st, 2026

Course selection notification from students regarding language modules to the Examinations Office:

Start: 5 weeks before the start of the lecture term (beginning on a Monday)

in the 2026/27 winter term: September 7th, 2026

End: 3 weeks before the start of the lecture term (ending on a Monday) (deadline)

in the winter term 2026/27: September 21st, 2026

Module registration via Löwenportal: within the relevant module registration period

First-year students in their first semester – Special considerations

Course enrolment is arranged by the Examinations Office with the Language Centre two weeks before the start of lectures:

in the winter term 2026/27: September 28th, 2026

Non-native speakers of German

• Deutsch (A1) [German (A1)]
• English: UNIcert II/English for Academia I

Native German speaker

• English: UNIcert II/English for Academia I
• “Free” choice of language (subject to availability)

Any non-enrolment in language courses must be notified to the Examinations Office by the end of the first week of November of the relevant calendar year (ending on a Friday) at the latest.

In the winter term 2026/27: by November 6th, 2026 at the latest
